Having a population of 80,925,000 people (Destatis, 2014), Germany is the most populous country in the European Union (EU) with a birth rate of 8.42/1000 population (Destatis, 2013) and a total dependency ratio of 52.1% and the elderly dependency ratio being 32.3%. (CIA world factbook, 2014) With 75.1% of the total population urbanised (CIA World Factbook, 2014), the urbanisation rate is as of 0.16% annual rate of change from 2010 to 2015.
